Emotional intelligence training is a key pillar to the skills training curriciulum delivered by Food Processing Skills Canada. We believe that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and every interaction is a chance to practice emotional intelligence.

Emotions are data — a powerful compass guiding us through the labyrinth of interpersonal relationships and self-management at the workplace. High emotional intelligence supports professional performance, physical and mental health, relationships and social intelligence. The skills of emotional intelligence can be learned and developed.

Key Emotional Intelligence Skills

Self-management. You’re able to control impulsive feelings and behaviors, manage your emotions in healthy ways, take initiative, follow through on commitments, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Self-awareness. You recognize your own emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behavior. You know your strengths and weaknesses, and have self-confidence.

Social awareness. You have empathy. You can understand the emotions, needs, and concerns of other people, pick up on emotional cues, feel comfortable socially, and recognize the power dynamics in a group or organization.

Relationship management. You know how to develop and maintain good relationships, communicate clearly, inspire and influence others, work well in a team, and manage conflict.

Food Processing Skills Canada has intentionally included emotional intelligence training in programs such as Skills Training Across Canada and Refine Yourself. We have also created a framework for an individual’s emotional intelligence learning journey called Acahkos which is a social-emotional learning solution designed to provide individuals with the tools and training needed to thrive in their roles. The Acahkos program consists of online emotional intelligence learning courses and hands-on webinars that serve as touchpoints to support people on their learning journey.

Additionally, Food Processing Skills Canada has made it easy for businesses and individuals to directly access 8 key emotional intelligence courses directly.
