This mini case study examines the presence of young workers within Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing sector, highlighting their demographic characteristics, employment patterns, and the broader factors influencing their access to the labour market. It also explores the potential benefits of hiring young workers and identifies strategies that can help attract, engage, and retain youth in the industry, supporting both workforce development and the continued growth of the sector.

Insights in This Report:

About 62,500 young people under 30 work in Canada’s food and beverage manufacturing industry, representing roughly 21% of the total workforce.

Youth participation is highest in bakeries and tortilla manufacturing (29%) and beverage manufacturing (25.8%), making them key entry points for young workers.

Many young people remain unaware of career opportunities in food and beverage manufacturing, highlighting the need for stronger outreach and early engagement.
