Employability & Essential Skills for Jobs in the Food + Beverage Manufacturing Industry
Employability & Essential Skills for Jobs in the Food + Beverage Manufacturing Industry
London Training Centre launching a FREE 4.5 Nationally Recognized Job Training Program Supporting SW ON Food & Beverage Manufacturing.
May 11th, 2020 London Training Centre will launch “Succeeding at Work – Employability and Essential Skills for the Food & Beverage Manufacturing Industry”.The Food and Beverage sector is Canada’s largest manufacturing industry with over 6,900+ businesses directly employing more than 270,000 Canadians and represent more than 18% of the total manufacturing shipments in Canada.
Each year, thousands of positions in the food and beverage manufacturing industry remain unfilled resulting in a chronic labour shortage with industry hiring unskilled individuals out of necessity. This results in poor retention levels, overworked staff, compromised food safety standards and unrealized economic growth. Food Processing Skills Canada (FPSC) has selected London Training Centre as its 2nd Ontario program location supporting SW Ontario job seekers with a new career path and industry employers seeking well-trained job candidate that are ready to hire.
Old ways won’t open new doors. To be ready for the future we must educate differently and look to non-traditional sources for workers. The Succeeding at Work project seeks to train individuals by offering 4.5 weeks of industry approved curriculum in food safety and workplace essential skills. And for first time in a Canadian manufacturing training program, social and emotional learning will be applied and assessed to determine its impact in terms of employment fit, retention and future learning skill needs.
“Today, our workforce is training for jobs that may not be here 5 years from now. To strike a balance between the workplace needs of today and the jobs of the future, we must train our Canadian workforce in critical thinking and flexible skills and attitudes that fit a rapidly changing world and industry. One of the major barriers to employment and retention are an individual’s personal attributes or ‘softskills’. Succeeding at Work is the first program of its kind that measures the effects of combining social and technical learning on recruitment and retention in the workplace.”
Jennefer Griffith – Executive Director, Food Processing Skills Canada
Succeeding at Work provides a blended learning approach using digital technology and industry professionals in a classroom setting providing 40+ courses.
