Sugar & Confectionery
The sugar and confectionery industry divides into 3 pretty obvious categories, so we’re not going to “sugar coat” it:
- Sugar Manufacturing
- Chocolate manufacturing
- Any other sweet that isn’t chocolate
There’s about a 50/50 mix of selling directly to consumers and as ingredients to make other products. Most impressively, many old traditional sweets have carried through generations and are now being manufactured for the masses to enjoy.
Sweet careers await you!

Sugar Manufacturing
It’s exactly what it sounds like, this subsector converts beet and cane sugar into molasses, granulated sugar, invert sugar, confectioners’ sugar and good ol’ syrup.
Chocolate Manufacturing
Anything and everything chocolate fits here. You could be either making pure chocolate right from cocoa beans, or using chocolate to make other sweets like candy bars, chocolate-covered almonds or any other form of putting chocolate into a product like truffles, cocoa butter and cocoa powder!
